History Of College

Govt. Islamia Graduate College for Women, Cooper Road, Lahore was established in 1939 at Intermediate level. The college was a beacon of light for learning which opened its doors for young women to get higher education at that time, without any discrimination of creed, race or religion. 
 
It is worth mentioning that the college has the singular distinction of having been visited by the father of the nation “Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah on 26th March, 1944. The students of this college actively participated in the Pakistan Movement and kindled a torch which guided the Muslim women of the region towards progressive Pakistan.
 
Govt. Islamia Graduate College for Women, Cooper Road, Lahore has promoted and provided curricular and co-curricular activities for its students. To meet the ever increasing academic and non-academic needs, new buildings and blocks were added. In 1952, the commodious Shuja-ud-Din Hall was built. The Science Block (Botany & Zoology) and College Library were built during the year 1986-87 and a new Academic Block was built in 1993-94. 
 
In the year 2010, BS-4 Year Degree Program was introduced and college was affiliated with Lahore College for Women University, Lahore for BS 4-Year Degree Program. In 2011, the construction of BS Block was completed and well equipped Computer Labs were added in 2012-2013 by Higher Education Department, Govt. of the Punjab. In the year 2014-2015, two more computer labs were established. Internet and computer facilities have been provided to many departments to give the students and faculty an access to advanced sources of knowledge
